The Things I Miss

There are things I took for granted
And never missed before—
Like doing my own laundry
Or opening my door—
Long family discussions
A soothing country ride—
Watching my child’s accomplishments
And sharing in his pride—
The things that used to get me down
And seemed to be a bore—
If I could only have them back
I would complain no more—
I’d count each minute precious
Whatever came to be—
And never take for granted
The meaning…to be free!
