Thanks to all who were involved in making Our Voices Within an inspiring and well-attended event! Reporters, family members, former prisoners, domestic violence advocates, and prison reformists came together to share stories of survival against intimate partner and state-sponsored violence. We were even featured on the 6 o'clock local news that night. If you'd like to order an edited videotaped copy of the event and/or the 60-page informational booklet distributed that day, please send a check to LSPC/CCBWP for $10 (either the tape or booklet) or $18 (tape and booklet) to the address below. For those of you who missed it, Our Voices Within was a celebration of the strength of incarcerated survivors of domestic violence, and was held on Saturday, April 13, from 2-5 pm in San Francisco. This free event featured three formerly incarcerated women who killed their abusers: Rose Ann Parker (the only prisoner directly paroled under Gov. Davis), Brenda Aris (who received clemency under Wilson), and Harriette Davis (paroled under Wilson). Poems, statements, and other artwork from survivors still in prison were also read and displayed.
